Sydney – A Place We Did NOT Want to Leave

When we were deliberating how long to stay in Sydney we thought 5 days would be good – lots of time actually…how wrong we were! Sydney is an absolutely amazing City and one that we could definitely see ourselves living in!

First things first, the harbour is stunning – we found ourselves attracted to it each and every day simply looking at the Opera House, Harbour Bridge, and taking in the buzz of the people at the cafes, restaurants, bars, and ice creams shops all along. We were there at all times of the day – morning, afternoon, sunset, and evening with something to take in each time. The harbour is simply a beautiful place to relax, read a book, and take in the City.

For our first few days in Sydney we simply took in the City life – browsing in shops, taking in the architecture, and getting our bearings – while taking a million photos along the way.  Sydney is really the type of place you do not need to have a planned itinerary, you can spend countless hours just walking around the city looking at the beauty of the City and feeling the buzz of the people. While we were there we decided to climb the Pylon to get a good view of the City and Harbour together. I would definitely recommend this as it is a much cheaper option then the harbour bridge climb, $10 pp vs $199pp.

PHOTO SAFARI

Being such a picturesque city, Jarrett and I felt inclined to do some serious photo snapping. Not only is Sydney a gorgeous City in the daylight, but it really sparkles at night. With that said, we spent a few hours one night capturing the beauty of the City lights, one of our favourite photo safaris to date. Although this might not be everyone’s cup of tea – if you are interested in photography this is a MUST in this City.

AFL

While we were in Sydney we decided to take in one of the National sports – Aussie Rules Football! We had no idea what was going on at first, except for a brief low down from my cousin Toby in Melbourne. It was pre-season when we went so we got to watch three short games, of 40 minuets each, in a quick round robin between three teams all for $23 pp. The ambience of the game was really cool – everyone was really into it. Also, pretty much 90% of the seating is general admission which means bring your own blanket or chair and sit n a grassy hill wherever there is space which was pretty sweet – we ended p getting seats right behind the goal posts pretty close to the front. In all this was pretty cool to check out – it would be like an Aussie coming to Canada and watching hockey, kind of a must!

BEACHES

The two main popular beaches around Sydney are Bondi and Manly Beaches. We decided to hit up both! To go to Bondi Beach you just grab bus number 333 to Bondi Beach, which is only about a 30 minute ride from the harbour. Manly beach is a bit further and you need to catch a ferry from the harbour. We ended up spending more time at Manly then Bondi but they are both beautiful beaches. Both beaches have shops, ice cream stops, cafes etc to check out while you are there. I personally enjoyed Manly more then Bondi, I felt it had a bit more character. However, we did not get as much time at Bondi so it is hard to pass judgement, I would recommend checking them both out while in Sydney, especially since they are so close to the City Centre. What more could you add to a stunning City but beautiful beach within 30 minutes.

All in all, our time in Sydney was amazing and we could have used a few more days to take it all in! To check out photos of our time there, Click Here.

Wow! Sydney looks amazing–great pictures :) This will sound ridiculous compared to everything you both have seen but so far I am most jealous of eating ice cream at the beach…I could really go for that right about now.

Just wanted to say thanks for the package! Kelsi delivered it to my desk–it was such a great surprise to see this morning. Your note is the first thing to adorn my cubicle wall.

Oh by the way…HAPPY BIRTHDAY JARRETT! I know its not the right day here, but where you are it is so hopefully you are celebrating.

I am really looking forward to your Asia adventures and updates–can’t wait. Travel safe, talk soon.
